Leave the Fatback Biscuits Alone
Fatback is a common animal product that is used in soul food. Eating like this will kill you. The best thing you can do is leave that fatback alone.
It is not uncommon to find a few strips of fatback in a pot of collard greens, especially in the south. But that is not a healthy way of eating.
Some will say, “Girl that’s good eating” or “You don’t know what you’re missing.”
Knowledge drop time!
- Eating fatback and other fat laden animal products is not good eating. It can actually kill you. Check out these videos (Foods that Kill). Make sure you view all parts.
- You will be missing a lot of diseases that can send you to an early grave.
If you are trying to make healthy lifestyle changes, then pork is the first animal product you should kick to the curb.

Hey Evelyn,
No I did not have fat back biscuits growing up however my grandfather would make crackling bread, that is cornbread with fat back pieces in between. I will be honest, I did enjoy that.
Even though I am not vegan, pork has not really agreed with me for some reason. Tried to eat bacon and sausage recently, but it is too salty and I would have back pains from the salt. So, decided to just stay away from it. Never liked chitlings, pigs feet, hog mauls, etc. I guess I am unusual for a southerner.

Hi Michelle!
You’re not an unusual southerner. There are many of us who do not eat pork. My husband eats meat, but is not an eater of pork. He’s as southern and country as they get. lol…
Thanks for sharing!

@Melinda,
Hi Melinda! I remember the biscuits my grandmother made…fond memories.
That is great that salads and spinach are your favorite. Greens are packed with good things that our body needs.
I grew up with that southern cooking that you stuck a piece of bacon or the ham bone in the greens on the stove, soup, and …well anything on the stove…and my grandmother made those biscuits. Thank goodness I didn’t continue that tradition. I can’t claim to be meat-free…but salads and spinach are my favorite and I try to avoid the grease 95% of the time.

@Ileane @ BloggerLuv,
Thanks for the thumbs up and for stopping by!
Hi Ileane, Wow, you’ve been pork free for a long time!
Hey Evelyn, I’m no vegan but I gave up pork back in the 70′s. These biscuits would never be served at my table. LOL! Thanks for the video. I’m giving it the thumbs up on YouTube!

@Jean Sarauer,
Hi Jean,
I thought the same thing too! I’m so glad I know better today!
Take care!
We used eat ‘side pork’ on the farm where I grew up, plus we baked everything with lard. Back then I thought I needed animal products to stay healthy. Isn’t it bizarre how the things we’re conditioned to think we need are actually things that can do us such harm? Not to mention the suffering for the animals . . . .
Evelyn,
I love it (the video…not the fatback ha ha)!
I’m glad that I stop eating pork about 10 years ago and I am vegan now. You are so correct, it will KILL YOU! It’s sad that certain people have grown accustomed to consuming unhealthy foods. But, like you said, we you know better, do better. Each one teach one. We will change for the better – one person at a time.
Way to let your voice be heard, Evelyn!
