Hi Healthy Opal,
I agree with you. I think it is important that to quality content and focus on building community first, before monetizing. I've just started really getting into monetizing and I started my blog back in March. As far as adding Adsense, I will wait on that, if I add it at all.

That is great that you have gotten paid to write for other people. I'm working on that myself.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Evelyn,

Interesting post, I don't monetize my personal sites when they are first created. My main focus on those sites is interacting with the readers, and simply building traffic. As a site gets older, I might add some type of monetization.

Although my lowest paying site monetarily, My older site that was similar to Celebrate Life didn't do too bad. I made a little over 1k monthly. That was from the affiliate ads, sponsors asking to place ads on my site, and indirectly from few website owners requesting me to write on their sites for pay.

Over the past four or five years, In my observation, I see some people rush into monetization entirely too quickly. Quite a few slap something on their blog as soon as it's created. It sort of reminds me of a new business I'm not familiar with. I really don't know them, but they're trying to sell me something? No, you've got to win me over first. Some of those people tend to get disappointed when they aren't making a lot of money within the first few months.

It can take time, If they ask me, I usually tell them to focus on their writing, build a loyal group of followers, who enjoy and will market your work (in case Google decided to knock your PR rating and the traffic they send your way) and with perseverance you might become extremely successful with online monetization.

Will I advertise on Celebrate Life? Outside of the occasional affiliate link I might, but I'm in no rush. I have other plans for celebrate life, and eventually I'll put those into action. Currently my main focus is content and interaction.

Indirectly I've already gotten paid for having that site since a few businesses has contacted me via email about writing elsewhere. I told them my price, and I wrote those articles.

Evelyn,

Awesome post! I think that too many people worry about offending their readers to sell them stuff on their blog, but unfortunately not only are they cheating themselves out of income, they are cheating their readers out of great resources that could significantly help them.

The do-follow badge looks great on your blog!
Thank you so very much for the link and the mention!
