A representative for the Rhone Botanicals and Skin Care Company, contacted me to try the products.  I received the products for free and I am not being paid to review the products.  These are my honest opinions about the Rhone Botanicals and Skin Care products.

The Rhone Botanicals and Skin Care company is located in Boston, Massachusetts.  They pride themselves in providing 100% pure skin care products free of chemicals, no animal cruelty and no animal ingredients.

Dead Sea Salt Face and Body Scrub (Lavender)

The dead sea salt face and body scrub has 100% pure Jordanian Dead Sea Salt with natural fragrances and oils.  This sea salt scrub exfoliates, nourishes and moisturizes while cleansing, stimulating, healing, improving blood circulation and detoxifying the skin.

Note:  I was concerned about the mineral oil listed on the ingredient label, because I know that mineral oil clogs the pores.  I inquired about the mineral oil, and Jade informed me that the mineral oil is no longer in the product. The owner uses jojoba, and grapeseed oil which is listed on the website.

100% Pure Unrefined Shea Butter (Lavender and Mango Essence)

The shea butter has unrefined shea butter organic jojoba and lavender/mango essential oil.  The unscented shea butter has vitamin E and jojoba. Rhone Botanicals uses Burkina Faso:  Fair Trade shea butter, which helps the West African women who produce the shea butter.

Shea butter is enriched with vitamin A, E, F and high in non-saponifiable fat.  Shea butter is one of nature’s best moisturizers and skin healing agents.

These Products are For:

Those who like using natural and pure skin care products, that are not tested on animals (cruelty-free) and do not contain animal ingredients.

My Experience

I received the products in the mail on a very hot day, which resulted in the shea butter being melted.   I was afraid the quality would be compromised, but it was okay.

Smell:  The smell was very good and not too overpowering.  I like the smell of lavender (salt scrub and shea butter) and found the smell very pleasant and authentic.  The shea butter mango essence also smelled nice.  One of the best mango smelling shea butters I have ever smelled.

Texture:  The texture of the dead sea salt scrub was nice.  The salt granules were larger than I expected.  I have tried other salt scrubs, and thought this scrub would be loaded with oil and very little salt.  But to my surprise, I could not visually see any oil.  Once I put the dead sea salt scrub on my skin I immediately felt the oil.

The shea butter texture has a creamy consistency and melts down to an oil as soon as I put it in my hands.

Dead Sea Salt Scrub

I used the sea salt scrub on my face, arms, legs and feet.  I was skeptical about using the scented scrub on my face because I have sensitive skin but all was well.  If I had to do it over again, I would use the unscented version.

The first time I used the scrub on my face, my face was burning.  I scrubbed too hard which caused a little irritation (hence the burning).  I did not have this problem again, because I was careful not to scrub too hard.

I noticed a warming sensation on all parts of my skin when I applied the scrub .  I do not know what makes the warming sensation, but I like it.

They recommend that you use sea salt scrub 2-4 times a week.  I used the scrub 2 times a week on my face and about 3 times a week on my arms, legs and feet.  I used the product for 2 weeks before writing this review.

Results:  My skin is very soft and smooth.  I had a dry, rough spot on my right elbow.  After using the dead sea salt scrub, my right elbow is no longer dry and rough.  I cannot believe the smoothness I am experiencing.

100% Pure Unrefined Shea Butter

I used the shea butter each time I used the dead sea salt scrub.  Most whipped shea butters that I have used are very thick and heavy, but not this shea butter.

This shea butter is very light and melts into the skin without the heavy greasy feeling.  I like this because it does not feel like I have anything on my skin.

I also used the shea butter a few times on my daughter’s skin and on a rash that she has.  Her skin looks and feels better and the rash is slowly clearing up.

Final Thoughts

I like these products and they performed very well on my skin.  The only thing I had an issue with was the shea butter.  The shea butter I received was melted which resulted in the texture being grainy when it solidified, but the product integrity was not compromised.

The cost of the shea butter is $25 for 2.75 ounces.  It is pricey, but I think the shea butter is worth $25 because it is a high quality product and it does not take a lot to moisturize my skin.  A little goes a long way!  I figure 2.75 ounces of shea butter will last me at least 3-4 months.  Not bad! *I do not expect to use it every day.

The dead sea salt scrub is $28 for 8 ounces.  I am very impressed with the dead sea salt scrub because it worked very well on my skin.  My skin is softer and smoother, plus I do not have a crusty, rusty elbow anymore.  The sea salt scrub is definitely a product that I will have in my skin care routine.

Even though I received these products for free, I will buy these products in the future.  I recommend that you visit Rhone Botanicals and give the products a try.

One of my friends lives in Israel and i can vouch from any product made with ingredients from the Dead Sea. Everything she’s sent me worked better than i expected. Only downside i could find is the higher price than on normal products, but it’s worth it.

Sounds like a promising product. Do you know whether they offer any free samples? We don’t have Rhone products here in Australia

Sounds like a good investment! Dermatologists usually recommend once a week so I think though that exfoliating twice a week may be too much for your face. Maybe doing that the first two weeks and then do it once a week?

You mentioned that the shea butter melted because of the weather. (been there so that’s ok) How did it look after resolidyifiyng? Did you have to put it in the fridge or did it harden by itself? I live in Florida so hot temperatures can ruin creams and lotions

    • Hi Laura,

Thanks for the advice. For some reason, after the two week period, I leaned toward once a week. It works better for me.

The shea butter looked creamy, but it was grainy. Even though it was a little grainy the butter melted as soon as it touch my hands and did not feel grainy. I’ve tried other shea butters that were grainy and it took forever for it to melt…come to think about it, the product felt grainy too.

I did put it in the fridge and left it in until it solidified. It didn’t take long for this process to occur.

Thanks for stopping by and sharing!

  4. Dead Sea Salt, is it actually from Dead Sea?
Why Dead Sea salt? Can salt from any sea have same effect as dead sea salt?

    • Hey Jupitor,

Yes, the salt is from the Dead Sea. They have a lot of information (benefits, properties, etc) about the salt they use on the website.

I’m not really sure if one would get the same results using regular sea salt. That’s a good question!

      Take care,

I’m in the beauty/skin care field myself so I’m always looking for ways to help my skin. I did find some products that I love once again they are on the pricy side. What I have found is that organic, natural products are so potent a small amount goes a long way therefore in the long run they were actually cheaper and much better for your skin. So it’s a win win deal. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I’ll look into their products.

    • Hi Tracey,

It is always a good thing to use natural products.

Yeah, I’m finding that even if something does cost more, it usually doesn’t take a lot of the product. And we end up saving in the long run. I totally agree with you that!! ;)

      Thanks for stopping by!

    Hey Evelyn,

I have several Shea butter/sea salt lotions. However, I checked out their website and OMG I had no idea of the benefits of sea salt!

I would really like to try the scrub after the positive results you reported. I have a few really dry areas that could sure use exfoliating.

    Have a great week!
