When the Comments are Few (keep blogging)
It is impressive when you land on a blog and see lots of comments. You probably think after landing on that blog, that the blog is very popular, because of the high number of comments. Then you return to your blog which has little to no comments wondering if you should keep blogging.
The number of comments one receives on a blog sometimes makes or breaks a blogger. As long as one has lots of comments he/she stays motivated to keep publishing articles, but as soon as the comment count goes down, he/she stops posting.
Are you motivated to blog when there are few to no comments on your blog? Never let the number of comments affect your enjoyment of blogging. Everyone likes comments, but comments are not everything. Do not let the number of comments you receive stop you from blogging.
Blog Commenting (my experience)
Some include blog commenting as one of their blogging duties. Usually when you comment on other blogs, the blogger visits your blog and leaves a comment. This does not always happen, but in some cases it does happen.
Some bloggers comment on a specific number of blogs daily for different reasons. Some focus on commenting on blogs that are in their niche. I use to have commenting on other blogs as part of my blogging duties, but I found that I could not keep up the pace.
There are people who share with me through Email, Twitter, Facebook, and You Tube that they enjoy reading my blog. Those are readers who have never commented on my blog, but they are readers. So even if you are not getting a lot of comments on your blog, always remember that someone is reading what you write.
Keep Blogging
If the number of comments you are receiving on your blog are few, keep blogging. You can increase the number of comments on your blog by visiting other blogs and leaving comments, if the number of comments you are receiving is getting to you.
It is easy to stop blogging, when you receive few to no comments. You have to always remember why you started blogging and let that be what motivates you to keep blogging.
There are popular blogs that receive lots of visits a day with few comments, some even turn off their comments, which results in no comments below the post. It is not the number of comments that matters, it is how many you reach and you reach more than you think.
Stay motivated, do what you enjoy, and keep blogging!
Discussion: Has there ever been a time when you wanted to stop blogging? Why? (be honest, don’t blame it other obligations, because if you enjoy something, you will stay dedicated and motivated to the cause)
Here’s my answer: Yes, because I thought no one was reading my blog, but when I looked at my analytics, the numbers said something different. I kept blogging!!

It is very true that it’s hard to keep up with the social aspect of commenting, visiting, and maintaining your blog or site at the same time. I think it’s like a full time job. But nice comments are always welcomed. Love your post

Hi Evelyn, this is perfect advice and one of the reasons I never miss a post of yours! I almost quit blogging over this exact thing until I realized what a personal comfort it was for me. While life doesn’t always afford us time to blog, comment, and work too social media has surely helped. Like you, I see sharing as valuable as comments.
Thanks for the encouraging reminder!

Hey Kathy,
I’m glad you’re back. I hadn’t seen you on the scene and when I did see your apple post, I was glad.
I’m trying to do better with my commenting, it is a challenge, but I’m glad we do have social media.
Good to see you and have a great week!!
Evelyn
Wonderful, encouraging advice and again right on time as I’m somewhat starting over from scratch. I’m seeing a few of my old subscribers from Blogger come by my new blog so that’s giving me a little bit of hope but I know that I gotta keep on writing.

Hi Evelyn! I like what you said about someone always reading what you write even if they aren’t commenting. It’s true. It’s not uncommon for someone on Facebook or Twitter to say “I really loved your post about being too old to rock” or whatever. And I would have had no idea they’d read it. They just read without commenting. I also came to realize through Google Analytics that generally comments are about 5% of the readership of that page. I’d say that fits most people. Most people – especially if they don’t own a blog or don’t consider themselves writers – like to read posts but are too nervous to comment on it publicly.
One trick I did in the beginning of ElevationLife when I had virtually no readers and didn’t get the “blog commenting” thing (but did understand that social proof mattered) was to email the link to 50 or so people I felt would leave good feedback. I had them read and write a short comment if they liked it.
From that, other people began commenting -people I didn’t know in real life. I eventually learned to visit their blogs and reciprocate.

Thanks for the pep talk!
I know that people are reading my blog (or at least visiting the page briefly…), but getting them to stay and engage is so difficult.
I have noticed that the days I comment more on others’ blogs I get more comment on my own.
And even if no one commented ever, I think I’d still write!

Hi Evelyn,
Comments on my posts started to drop as Twitter RTs and Facebook Likes went up.
It would be nice to have both, but I think the social media stuff is becoming the better way to share our voices

Great post Evelyn!
It’s so easy to focus on the amount of comments. Fortunately the stats show how many people we reach.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Great job as usual, Evelyn. I feel sad sometimes when we have only a few comments, but when I check numbers, we are doing really well. But I do still feel a tad envious of those bloggers who have 50 comments all the time. Ah well, keep on keeping on!

Thanks for this. I feel like this a lot but I figure I keep going because I like writing…even if nobody is reading.
I also go to other blogs and comment. I keep up to date with my Reader 80% of the time. It’s hard sometimes and I don’t like people to feel like I do so I always make a concerted effort to read and comment as much as possible.
On my Special Mom Space blog get next to no comments and even Google Analytics says my visits are few so that one needs work and it makes me feel discouraged sometimes.

Yes, keep writing! You never know who will land on your blog from doing a search.
That’s a good practice, Michelle! I’m taking notes.
Hmmm…did you notice that your Special Mom Space button is on my blog. So far since, I’ve added it I think 800+ people have visited your blog (at least that’s what the wp125 stats indicate). Stay encouraged on the Special Mom blog, because it is a much needed site. It will get better!
Thanks for stopping by!
P.S. I use to be a Lancome junkie, especially for the Juicy Tubes.
OMG Eve, I didn’t even notice that you put my button there. Thank you so much. I haven’t checked my stats in a little while. I usually do it at the beginning of the month so I don’t get stressed out LOL.
I used to loooo ve juicy tubes also but I’m trying to scale back my many purchases so I can pay off the debt I recently incurred.
Thank you for all of your encouragement. I really appreciate it. I watch your vids and read your blog as much as I can. I am working on some personal stuff (a little insight: I’m working on becoming a minimalist and clearing major clutter from my life)

Hey Michelle!
I haven’t purchased any high end makeup in a while, but a few years ago, I was a makeup junkie. Like you, I have cut back on purchases and paying off debt too.
I appreciate your support. At this time, I can’t watch videos, without getting a lot of lag time, but soon I will be back on DSL, which is much faster, and I will be able to watch videos. I know you’ve uploaded some videos, but I haven’t been able to view them. I did watch the short clip of your son’s birthday party.
I’ve got to do better myself, especially with my commenting.
You and me both…minimalist!
Take care,
Evelyn
This was highly encouraging today! Thank you.
To answer your question, yes. Because I thought “what do I really have to offer”…but I do have thoughts and words to offer and if for nothing else but my children who live far away!
