My 7 Guest Posting Tips for the Blogger
Those of you who follow me know that I started home schooling my daughter last week. As a result of me home schooling my daughter, I have not had a lot of time to do the blogging activities that I usually do.
My posts have been very few, but that will soon change. I am adjusting and making a new schedule so that I can continue my blogging duties. Blogging duties include, networking, commenting on other blogs, writing and much more.
It takes time for me to do my blogging duties, effectively and I will definitely do an editorial calendar, because I want to post more.
Guest Posting Tips
I posted a status on Facebook and my friend Tamara at Fitknitchick.com, chimed in and she helped me change and see things in a new light. After chatting with Tamara, I decided to put a guest posting policy in writing, which also resulted in a few guest posting tips.
These are the tips came from me changing my guest posting policy:
- It takes time to edit posts. I am getting too many requests, more than I can handle. I want to keep guest posting open, but I cannot allow just anyone to post on my blog.
- Follow the blogger on other forums. Most people who submit requests, do not follow me on other forums (at least I don’t now that they do) and they do not know me or the message that I share with others.
- Spend time reading the blog. If you do not know me and what the common topics are on this blog, how can you relate to the readers of this blog? Why ask me what you should post? Spend some time browsing and checking out the categories so that you have an idea of what we share on this blog.
- Do not push a blogger to publish your post or be demanding. I cannot deal with pushy, demanding people, I do not have the time nor the patience. If I tell you that I am busy, please understand that and do not keep emailing me asking me when your post goes live.
- Know and understand the blogger. If you know me, then you would not be pushy, when getting your article published. Most people understand when I am a little slow on getting their article posted, but then there are those few who do not understand. Those are the ones who only care about getting their links on the blog and they do not know me.
- Keep the readers/followers of the blog in mind. I want the posts on this site to reflect the message and brand of this blog. When that is not happening the readers/followers of this blog can tell.
- You will get by fine without guest posts on your blog. If something comes up and I cannot post articles for a few weeks, I will not be quick to allow other bloggers to post, especially when I do not know them. I would rather not have any posts for a few weeks, than to publish something that does not fit well with this blog and the readers/followers of this blog.
Final Thoughts
If you want to guest post on any blog, make sure you get to know the owner of the blog. Follow them on other forums and keep in touch with them.
Know the message that they share with their readers and followers. Visit their blog and leave a comments, regularly.
Always be courteous, kind and polite, because you never know who’s watching you!

I’m a new blogger and I am so impress with your blog! I’ve read most of your healthy lifestyle posts and they are very impressive. But I was just wondering how does guest post work? Do you pay them for a post?

Hi Ingrid!
Most of the time, a guest blogger does not get paid. The payment comes from exposure and the possibility of getting traffic to your site. However, there are some (not many that I know) who do pay for others to post on their site.
Thanks for stopping by and chiming in!
Hey, Ingrid. I’d like to add a few advantages besides those mentioned by Evelyn: you get quality traffic, you build domain and search engine authority, you build your online influence, it helps develop your authority, you build your portfolio and credibility, you improve your writing, you build your subscriber base, it helps you build your social media profile.
That’s better. I think I’ve got them all

So timely as Alexandra and I need to create a similar “guest posting guideline” sheet similar to the one you set forth. We find ourselves spending too much time answering guest post requests, half of which are attempts to get free commercial links. Oh – another tip – when you submit your query to guest post, tell me EXACTLY which links and anchor text you are wanting.
Thanks E!

Hey Kymberly!
Yeah, having a guest posting guideline is a good thing to do. When you get request, you can send them the link to your page, because 9x out of 10 they probably haven’t read it.
Thanks for sharing your tip!

Here’s the thing, I’m an experienced writer but a new blogger. I haven’t reached the stage where I’m actively pursuing guest blogging gigs.
Once I have those kinds of aspirations, i will apply some of the common sense rules you’ve laid out.
For so many folks it’s all about them. These “Me! Me!” people can be exhausting to be around since they love themselves so much they’re utterly astounded to discover that somebody else is only lukewarm to them and their ideas.
Be humble. Be patient. And above all–when you want something from somebody–be nice!

Hi Adam!
How are you! I’m read your article on Abstinence anyway, I love your writing style.
You’re right about “me”, because that’s what I see a lot.
We should be like this in our every day life (humble, patient, being nice). (love it!)
Thanks for sharing!
P.S. Do you have an gravatar? Just asking, because I didn’t notice one onyour blog. Would be nice to have one, though. (en.gravatar.com)
Take care,

Hi Evelyn,
So glad you wrote this up!
I have found that I get fewer requests for guest posts now, although there are clearly people out there who think the suggestions don’t apply to them…
Now I’m working on a similar page for companies who want to send me $20 worth of free product and expect me to write a blog post about their product and share it on SM. ‘Cause I have so much free time available, right?
Hmm, better work on the wording a bit first…

Hey Tamara!
Having guidelines is good. There will always be people like that, no matter what.
Those companies expect a lot. A blog post and link to their product, should be enough. They should be the ones sharing the post on SM, not you. They should not require you to share the post on SM. Just my 2 cents. Good luck on that.
Thanks for stopping by and for your help!

Tip #8
Only submit original articles
You wouldn’t believe how many authors plagarise articles and try to pass them off as their own. At Hive Health Media, I see this at least 2-3 times per week.

Hey Doug!
This is the best tip of all. Articles should be original.
Wow 2-3 times a week, that’s not good.
Thanks for sharing and chiming in, Doug!
