“You can’t reach for anything new if your hands are full of yesterday’s junk.” ~ Louise Smith
Is it because we secretly believe that if we let go, we will somehow lose or miss something? Whatever the reason for us not letting go, there will come a time when we will have to let go and surrender.
Letting Go of What No Longer Serves You
Sometimes we have to let go of people that take more from us than we receive from them. If you are always extending yourself to others, you will soon discover that you have nothing left for yourself. Leftovers for yourself is not a good self-care practice, eventually you will get tired and burnt out. Self-care is not selfish; never give yourself your own leftovers.
Everyone has past hurts, but there comes a time when we have to let past hurts go. We cannot carry past hurts with us forever, because they are just too heavy and besides it is not healthy. Carrying past hurts weigh heavy on the mind, body, and spirit. Releasing past hurts ushers in healing and transformation.
There are many things that we hold tightly in our hands, because we are afraid that if we let certain things go that we will somehow not measure up to others. If these things cause stress in your life in any kind of way, let it go. Ask yourself, “Is it really worth it?”
The next time you wonder why you cannot do or have something new; get out your magnifying glass and examine your hands, closely. Notice what you have in your hands and do not be afraid of letting go of what no longer serves you. Releasing that which no longer serves you is hard, but know that until you let go of everything that stresses you; you cannot truly reach for anything new.
“Saying yes to happiness means learning to say no to the things and people that stress you out.” ~ Thelma Davis
