You’re probably wondering, how can your daughter teach you anything about blogging, when she doesn’t blog, let alone know what blogging is? Hold on, wait a minute, there are many lessons, we can learn from children, but we must pay attention.
First let me say, that if you observe children and pay attention to what they do, you can learn many lessons from them. The key is that you must pay attention.
The next time you are chilling, pay attention to how your child or any child for that matter does things. You’ll be surprised by the many lessons that you find wrapped up in the little things they say and do.
Lessons I Learned from my Daughter
My daughter is a child with special needs, but she doesn’t let any of that stop her. She never ceases to amaze me, because when I think she is not paying attention, she is taking it all in and shows me and tells me so when I least expect it. That girl has some smooth moves.
Here is what I have learned from my daughter as it relates to blogging:
#1. Be A Go Getter
My daughter has been a go getter since the day she was born. Whatever she wants she gets. If she sees something that I have placed out of her reach, she’ll find a way to get it. The next thing I know she has what she wants and she’s doing her thing.
In the world of blogging, you can’t wait for things to happen. You have to get out there and reach high to get what you want. If you don’t then, you’ll always be stuck wishing you would have reached for it. Go get it!
#2. If You Fall, Get Up and Try Again
My daughter use to fall when we would go for our walks, which resulted in skinned knees. She would get up with tears in her eyes and keep on going. The mother in me wanted to scoop her up and protect her. But the realist in me knew that this little girl is tough, she can do anything (let her do her thing).
I didn’t stop taking her for her walks because of her stumbles and falls. I saw the fight and determination in her and I could not stifle that if I wanted to. Today we go for our walks and she doesn’t fall, she’s running and I can hardly keep up with her.
When you feel like giving up and have fallen down in your blogging, get up and try it again. Try something new, take a different approach, pretty soon you’ll find yourself not stumbling and falling. You’ll be skipping, running and gliding, but you cannot let a little stumble or fall keep you down.
#3. Figure Out What Works for You
My daughter loves watching her Elmo and Barney DVDs. There was a time when she didn’t know how to work the DVD, but it didn’t take long for her to figure it out. If there is a scene she doesn’t want to see, she’ll fast forward it. This is annoying, but hey she figured this out on her own and makes it work to her advantage.
In the world of blogging you have to do what works for you. Sure there are tons of helpful blogging tips out here, but you have to eat the apple and spit out the seeds. That way you take what you need and leave the rest. You can’t do it all, just figure out what works best for you and stick with it.
#4. Get Excited About Learning And Blogging
I teach my daughter at home and for me it is a bit of a challenge. I am not a trained teacher, but I have taught in all grade levels as well as on a college level, so I do have some experience. I just need more patience.
It takes my daughter a little longer to grasp things, but when she’s got it she’s got it. When she learns something new or knows the information that I am going over with her she gets excited and she lets me know because she gets loud.
Here’s a funny little tidbit. I taught her how to hoop like a Baptist preacher (which is quite entertaining) and I kid you not we’re in the store and she’s getting her hoop on. I can’t help but burst out into laughter, because it is so funny.
There is so much to learn in the world of blogging. So much until it can get overwhelming. When I learn something new and when I figure out how something works in the world of blogging, I am so happy, because it lets me know that things are not as hard as they seem.
Your excitement spills over into your blogging and your readers can see this. Don’t think they can’t feel your excitement online, because everything you do, shines through in more ways then you’ll ever know. Stay excited, learn all you can and keep blogging.
#5. Press On Even When You Don’t Feel Like It
I stated before that it takes my daughter a little longer to understand things, but when she’s got it she’s got it. One thing I notice with her is that, no matter what it is, she never gives up, now if it is something, she does not want to do, then she is not doing it. She’ll stand her ground, press on and go another way.
When I see my daughter doing things that I think she can’t do, I think to myself, “oh well, I guess that’s just not her thing.” When I least expect it she’s doing what I had not idea she could do.
If you want to be a better blogger, you must keep pressing on with strong determination. You may get thrown off your game a time or two or even more times than you can count.
But you have to keep pressing on even when you’re down to the wire and feel like giving up. It’s in those times, that you are at your best. You better bring it!
Final Words
I have a long-time blogging friend, one of the first bloggers I met when I got into blogging. I’ll always remember what Kiesha, told me when I wanted to stop writing on one of my blogs.
She said, “Don’t quit, you have so much to share you never know who you will inspire with your words. She also said that you never know where blogging can take you, so keep blogging.”
There are many lessons you can learn from children when it comes to blogging and life in general. Pay attention to those lessons, you don’t want to miss those golden nuggets that stay with you for a life time.
Live, laugh, and learn, but most of all pay attention to it all!!

Hi Evelyn,
I saw your youtube blog about Soy and fibroids and wanted to leave you an important message.
I am not eating soy any more unless it is fermented. Soy (Tofu) was my main protein base for 10 years I am convinced it made my fibroids grow (I look 7 months pregnant. (Unfermented) Soy is an anti-nutrient -it is dangerous-beware. Important read.

hey, this posting is so good. it’s true that from children, we can learn many things. because they could do anything that we don’t, they do it because its make them comfort. so if we want learn more, let’s do anything that make us comfortable so the results will be perfect too.

Hi Nando,
Thanks for your comments.
You don’t have to leave the link to your site. You probably need to sign up for comment luv.
FYI: Leaving a link in your comments is not DoFollow. In most cases I consider this spam, but I will not delete your link. If this happens again, I will remove your link from your comments, that’s a rule for those who comment on this site. The only exception is when someone is sharing a link that is relevant to the post or if Comment Luv is not working for them. Happy Friday Evelyn.
Love this post. My children have made me a whole lot better/smarter/more patient person than I ever was before.
Your post could also have been titled ‘Lessons my daughter taught me about exercise’; so applicable to fitness too!

Hi Evelyn!
I can’t believe how much time has passed since I said that! 🙂 But I’m so glad you were able to find inspiration in those words – knowing that inspires me!! 🙂 You just never know who needs to read what you have to say. Whenever I’m trying to make good food choices, I always think about your videos, how much you’ve accomplished by changing your habits. It keeps me striving to do better. You’ll be happy to know that I actually ate only plant-based foods for 3 months straight (yeah, I’ve reverted to eating moderate amounts of eggs and diary) – so yes, what you write does make a difference in people’s lives – especially mine! 😀 Thanks to your daughter for teaching you these lessons! 🙂

Hi Kiesha!
Yeah, it has been a while, but I am glad you said those words. It kept me going and still keeps me going to this day.
Wow, that’s great, 3 months huh?? You’re on it lady and I am happy that you gave eating a plant-based diet a try. 🙂
So glad our paths crossed.
Best wishes!
Evelyn

Evelyn, great tips! We all can learn from children if we take the time to listen. Hannah is an excellent teacher…go Hannah! Never give up should be a mantra for us all.

Hey Ms. Carolyn!
How are you? 😉
