I used to dread this time of the year because I would always have itchy eyes, a runny nose, an itchy nose and the back to back sneezing that I could not control.
I thought I would have seasonal allergies for life and that there was nothing I could do about it. Well, since making dietary changes, I have not had any symptoms of seasonal allergies.
Even though the pollen is covering my vehicle and I can see it floating in the air, I am not bothered. Here’s how I got rid of my seasonal allergies and you can too:
1. Stopped eating foods high in sugar. One day after having seasonal allergy symptoms, I asked myself, “What did you eat?” Answering this question led me to consider cutting out eating foods high in sugar. I learned to stay away from the high sugar foods to keep the allergies at bay and it works for me.
Consider sugar as a source of why you have seasonal allergies
2. Eliminated highly processed foods. Highly processed foods have all kinds of nasty stuff. Eating most of my food as close to whole as possible has helped me stay well.
Reading food label ingredients helps you make the best choices.
3. Decreased intake of dairy. I do eat a small amount of dairy, but I notice that when over do it, I have allergy symptoms. I learned this when I made a low-carb pizza. Although I used healthy ingredients from healthy sources, I had to stop eating pizza because it was not good for me.
Many people consume dairy and do fine, but there are some who do not do well.
4. Eliminated grains from my diet. Grains generally are high in carbohydrates which results in increasing the amount of sugar in the blood. Knowing that foods high in sugar cause allergy symptoms, then I leave it out of my diet.
Try cutting back on grains and take note on how you feel.
5. Preparing most meals at home. I believe that cooking most of my meals at home helped me with seasonal allergies. When I cook for myself, I do not have to guess or even wonder about the ingredients, because I already know what is in my food.
Take time to prepare most of your meals at home. It is the healthy thing to do.
6. Taking supplements. There are certain supplements that are ‘must haves’ for me. I believe these supplements are beneficial in helping me avoid seasonal allergies. The supplements are vitamin D3, kelp, fish oil (affiliate link), and a probiotic. I do not claim that these supplements prevent seasonal allergies, but I do know these supplements have awesome benefits.
I dealt with seasonal allergies for years, but since making simple changes and tweaking my diet, I do not have any seasonal allergy symptoms.
These days, I look forward to spring, because the pollen no longer bothers me.

Great points! Cutting out inflammatory foods will definitely reduce allergies, i.e. sugar, grains, legumes, even meats, even though a little bit of meat is ok. Foods high in good fats and proteins is especially beneficial.

Great tips! I’ve followed a similar protocol and have had wonders eliminating life long allergies. And I’m the exact same with cheese. If I overdo it, the sinuses seal right back up. I’d throw in the use of local raw honey and bee pollen to help!

Hi Catlin,
Thanks for sharing the info about local raw honey and bee pollen!

Hi – thank you for this! Is there anything specific you recommend for a child? He doesn’t eat much processed sugar at all. We do grains, but no wheat. thank you!
Evelyn Parham says
Hi Dawn,
Even if you don’t do wheat, there is still a chance that the sugar from grains could cause allergies. Just guessing about that.
But I give my daughter probiotics for kids and cod liver oil. That might be something to consider.
Thanks for your question and for chiming in!

Awesome tips Evelyn! I find that I get allergy symptoms too when I overdo the dairy. So sad because I LOVE cheese…. it just doesn’t love me. Have you ever tried taking Nettle for allergies? It works great and it’s full of natural minerals too!
Evelyn Parham says
Hi Tash!
I have never tried Nettle for allergies and never knew that it was good for allergies. Thanks so much for sharing that information!
