3 Reasons To Keep Your Weight Loss Activities Simple

March 14, 2018 by Evelyn Parham

weight loss now

“Just because you’re doing a lot more doesn’t mean you’re getting a lot done.” ~ Denzel Washington, Dillard University Commencement Speech

I am guilty of doing what Mr. Denzel says in many areas of my life even with weight loss.

I thought that if I did more, that I would get more done, but I was sadly mistaken.

Some of you know that I am currently on a weight loss journey to transform my body.

Question

How many of you have been trying to lose weight and have found yourself getting nowhere?

Sidenote: I am the first to raise my hand.

We do everything that we think we should do for a successful weight loss journey, only to give up because we are not perfect.

Striving for perfection is a set up for failure.

In this post, I share three reasons why you should keep your weight loss activity simple.

Weight Loss Activities

First, let’s start by defining weight loss activities.

Weight loss activities are the actions you do to lose weight.

The activities could include making better food choices, being in a calorie deficit, exercising, drinking more water, and getting more sleep.

It does not matter what activities one chooses, the key to success is making those activities stick.

Keeping It Simple

When things are complicated, it is easy to lose interest because the brain conceives it as a hard goal to reach. And so, we automatically give up without even trying.

Below are the three reasons to keep weight loss activities simple.

Reason #1

It helps with staying focused.

There is a ton of weight loss information at our disposal, and it is easy to become distracted.

Distraction causes loss of focus which results in trying anything that we think can help us reach the weight loss goal faster.

However, keeping your eyes fixed on what you know works best helps you stay focused on the activities that you know gets you results.

Reason #2

You are more likely to stick with your plan.

You have a plan that works for you, but you see Susie or Dave, doing something that you think you should try.

The best thing you can do is be happy that Susie or Dave is doing something that works for them.

Your plan works fantastic for you, so why change what works for you because of the success you see and think others have.

The best thing you can do for yourself is stick with your plan, primarily when it works well for you. Do not allow the success of other people to get you sidetracked.

Reason #3

It leads to tremendous weight loss success.

If you know that your simple plan works; stick with it.

A lot of people can be in your ear, telling you what they think you should do, but if what you are doing is bringing you success, then stick with your plan.

Jumping on a fad diet bandwagon may seem like the best thing to do, but it will not deliver long-term success, only short-term success.

You want success that is long-term and sustainable.

Conclusion

You do not have to do complicated activities to achieve the success you want with your weight loss.

Simple weight loss activities like eating nutritious foods, incorporating self-care rituals, doing some exercises that you enjoy, and being positive about the process will carry you through.

“Don’t confuse movement with progress.” ~ Denzel Washington

Just because you are moving does not mean you are going anywhere.

Focus on progressing and less on doing a lot of stuff.

Keep it simple and stay focused!
