Do you sometimes walk around with an unhappy countenance? Well, I must admit, sometimes it can be hard for me to keep a smile on my face. Yes, I appear to be happy to others, but sometimes, I don’t feel so happy on the inside.
As a result of me not feeling happy inwardly, it shows outwardly on my face. I have never been able to hide the way I feel, because my face usually tells the real deal.
Today, I will give you something to think about. I will share a few proverbs with you from the scriptures. The book of Proverbs is an excellent book for your reading, because it has many life lessons in it. Proverbs contains practical instructions for successful living.
Words of Wisdom
Proverbs 15:13
A glad heart makes a happy face; a broken heart crushes the spirit.
Proverbs 15:30
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health.
When we are genuinely happy on the inside, that happiness will radiate to the outside. Our spirit will usually be happy. But when we are broken and hurt on the inside our sadness will radiate to the outside. Resulting in our spirit being sad.
Believe it our not if we are joyful and happy within our heart, then it helps with our health. Good news always makes us happy, but tragic and bad news vexes our spirit, which can result in our health and spirits not being so good.
Main thought to take home
Always do your best to be happy and focus on the positive. Life is too short for you to walk around with a hung down head being unhappy. Walking around with a your head hung low does nothing, but makes for broken spirit and a sad, gloomy countenance. You know this can also affect your immune system too – not good!
Yes, there will be things that will happen in your life that will shake your foundation, but you can’t let those things keep you from moving forward.
Decide today, that no matter what, you will be happy by first smiling from the inside. When you smile from the inside, your whole being smiles too.
Give every cell in your body a daily dose of smiles and happiness. You will be amazed by how you feel as you go about your day.
Your health is your wealth!
Well Evelyn, I’ve come to rely more on what’s on the inside of me than what’s going on around me to determine my mood. I think that’s come from realizing and applying the “This Too Shall Pass” rule to every circumstance, be it good or bad. It’s all temporary so for the most part, I’m able to redirect my focus pretty quickly. Plus I don’t feel comfortable being uncomfortable … it’s yucky. 🙂
I’m glad you mentioned the Proverbs and the lessons it contains, I used to tell my children that there are 31 so there’s a chapter a day to keep the troubles away.
I also would like to add that I noticed that I was eating a lot of “comfort” foods … you may know them as “junk” foods to ease away stress so I had to replace that with WALKING. 🙂

You are teaching me. I need to apply that to my own life. Sometimes, I will allow things that are going on around me to affect my mood and I know I shouldn’t. I like the quote “this too shall pass.” I won’t forget that!

I get that way too. I will eat junk food, when I know I shouldn’t. When I examine what’s going on with me, I’m usually a little stressed. It is always good to know the the reason for grabbing the junk food. When you know that then you can do something about it. You’re on top of things! 🙂

I so agree with you that smile does wonder to our life, our day and people around us. I wrote about that in my 101 changes series: change 5: smile as you wake up, just this. I now try to start off my day right with smile, I try to remember or my kids remind me!

Hmm.. isn’t it OK to feel sad, or negative once in awhile? I mean, if something horrible happens, I’m sure you can’t be happy no matter what, even if you fake a smile and pretend outwardly.
I think it’s OK to look at the negative things around the world… it’s bad if you just do that, and don’t examine the truths surrounding negativity, but if you examine negativity and try to learn from it, I think it’s ok.

I think it is fine to feel sad or negative every now and then. I have my share of sad and negative moments, but I don’t stay in that mood for too long. I know when I focus on those issues for too long, I will be in that blue funk mood for a long time, so I try to have my moment and move on. It is definitely not easy to be happy all the time.
But what I try to do is not let the negative things around me get me down. I do that by being content with where I am and what I am doing in time.

As your noting of the Proverbs indicates, our outside world is but a reflection of our mental state. No matter how things appear on the outside we can control our thoughts and feelings. The cool thing about choosing your feelings is that it instantly changes your perception of circumstances. What was once bad is now good and the switching station causing this change is within you.
