I don’t feel well, my head hurts, stomach hurts, haven’t had a bowel movement in a week and I just feel awful.
A few weeks ago, I was eating foods that made my body sluggish. To be honest, I was way off base with my eating. I was sleepy, tired and not my usual energetic self.
I have learned my lesson and now, things are back on track. I am challenging myself to eat a raw vegan diet for 30 days. Today, marks day 6 and the only food that I have eaten that was cooked was organic corn chips and a small portion of potatoes.
One thing that I have noticed while sticking to a raw vegan diet for these 6 days is that the sluggishness has gone. I am having a detox symptom as I write this post. But I know that it is for the good.
What is sluggish food?
First, let’s start by defining sluggish.
Sluggish: 2: slow to respond 3: markedly slow in movement, flow, or growth.
Sluggish food is food that will slow you and your body down. These foods include, white flour, white sugar, white salt, dairy, sweets, junk foods, processed foods, animal flesh and animal products.
The more sluggish food you put into your body, the slower your body works. It actually takes more energy for the body to break down sluggish foods then non-sluggish foods.
Sluggish foods will slow down your digestive system resulting in constipation. It is not normal to have 1-2 bowel movements a week. If this is happening, then you are eating too many sluggish foods.
How does sluggish food make your body sluggish?
Sluggish food makes your body sluggish by causing the following:
- Tiredness
- Low energy
- Constipation
- Skin issues
- Weight gain
- Cloudy mind
- Headaches
- Low immune system
What are non-sluggish foods?
Non-sluggish foods are foods that bring you energy and help you have some get up and go. These foods include, fruits, vegetables, seeds, nuts, grains, legumes, water, fresh juices, and green smoothies.
The non-sluggish foods are plant-based, life giving and life sustaining foods. If you are eating too little of the non-sluggish foods, then you should consider upping your intake.
These foods can actually transform you and your body right before your eyes. Transformation will not happen overnight, but do know that it will happen.
Non-sluggish food will result in the following:
- High energy
- Well working digestive system
- Clear and glowing skin
- Weight loss and weight maintenance
- Clear mind
- Good immune system (rarely get sick)
Consider increasing the non-sluggish foods that you eat. You will see and feel the difference in your overall well-being.
Have you noticed your body being sluggish when you’ve eaten sluggish foods and how did it make you feel?

Great article! I, too, fell off my primarily raw eating lifestyle. I got bloated, constipated, runny nose, restless sleep, and etc. Eating primarily raw fruits and veggies, nuts and seeds is simply the best way to go.
PS. I really like the new blog setup! Stay Blessed!!

Wow, thanks for all the great info. I’ve always wondered if my low energy is the result of my unhealthy diet choices. The past few months I’ve been eating more fruits and veggies. I’ve noticed many of the changes you listed. Also my finger nails have gotten stronger. It has been much easier to maintain my weight too. I wish I had known about this a long time ago. Keep up the great work on this fabulous blog!!

This is so true. I always notice that when I start to eat more bad carbs that I just don’t feel as good as I use to. Energy goes down, and overall I can just feel that something isn’t right.
Now excuse me while I go make a nice healthy breakfast LOL.
Evelyn says
Hey Wayne,
You’ve noticed that and that’s good. You’re on it!
Hope you had a nice breakfast! :))

I agree with you – I have been recently re- introduced juicing into my diet and have noticed really positive benefits. Being very sensitive I have found that I can have very quick reactions to certain foods and drinks. When we pay conscious attention to our body, we can much more easily determine what it is trying to let us know. Too often I think we forget to pay much , if any attention to exactly what it is we are putting into our mouths – and why!

Hi Davina,
Glad you’ve noticed the benefits of juicing. Juicing is a great way to cleanse the body.
You are so right! I always tell people that they should listen to their bodies, because it never lies.

That is so true. When I am feeling sluggish it always seems to be related to eating terrible stuff. I try to keep nuts on hand to snack on for the sleepy afternoon. Good luck on the raw vegan 30 days. I can’t go that far, but I am trying to get healthier options in the house for me and the kids.
Evelyn says
Hi Melinda,
Thanks!
I think that is great that you are keeping healthier foods in the house for your family. Can’t go wrong doing that!

Evelyn,
Love the new blog look! and new picture of you, looks great!
I agree that some food make us sluggish, it is like catch-22, when we feel tired, we eat bad and junk food and because we eat such food, we feel more tired.
I know I have been caught up in this cycle often time to know this.
