5 Lessons I Learned that Changed Me Forever

November 14, 2018 by Evelyn Parham

life-lessonsIt’s been over a month since I published a blog post.  My attention and focus have not been on writing and sharing information to help others get healthy; mind, body, and spirit.

I started 2018, with high hopes, but as the year went by, I realized that I have to do things differently. And so, I spent my time working on other things.

I did not accomplish what I anticipated this year, but one thing is for sure, I learned valuable lessons.

Going forward, I will concentrate on writing and publishing my work. Someone once told me that sometimes, there would be dark times in life, but those are the times that make us the success we become.

5 Lessons that Changed Me Forever

#1 Family comes first.

I know family comes first, but there were times when I spent a lot of time creating content or following the news cycle when I should have been loving on my family.

#2 Do what you like.

I wasted time this year doing activities in which I did not enjoy. At the time, I thought I liked it, but much of what I did, increased my stress levels. I have decided to stop doing anything that causes stress and anxiety. Ah, what a relief!

#3 People do not care.

I know this sounds negative, but I experienced a few situations this year, in which the motives of people reared its ugly head. As a result, I stayed to myself most this year. I am now at peace.

#4 Take self-care seriously.

I need to take my advice and make self-care a priority in my life. It takes time, energy, and effort to do self-care rituals. I have what it takes to do it, but I directed my attention to other things and neglected self-care. Self-care is something I struggle with, but I know that it is necessary because there are people in my family who count on me.

#5 Disconnect from the digital distractions.

Staying connected and always plugged in is draining and stressful. I am tired of being a slave to social media, apps, news, email, and videos. I am in control.

These are lessons I have learned, but I leave you with this:

Always be thankful and express gratitude not just on Thanksgiving, but throughout the year.

The most interesting point here is the one about “people don’t care”. I took a week off from social media and, for once, didn’t pre-post anything, and didn’t visit any social media sites (well, Instagram doesn’t count lol). When I started posting again, I wrote a blog post about it and it was interesting to see that a few people actually did miss me but didn’t say anything about it at the time.

I think we all get caught up in the big picture without remembering the little moments. The majority might miss you but the few who care will… even if they don’t reach out to you. Kind of like when you lose someone you’re close to; just because people don’t reach out doesn’t mean they don’t care, because either they didn’t hear about it or they wanted to give you time to grieve first.

Course, you always have me in your corner! 😉

You’ve been in my corner for a long time and I am grateful for that.

Yeah, I noticed someone I’m following on Twitter was missing in action. I later learned that she had posted that she would be off Twitter for a few days. I don’t even know if I would have sent a message, but I sure missed her. 🙂

Thanks for stopping by and sharing your experience!

      Have a great weekend!!

Very well said. Evelyn, you seem to always know when it is time to regroup. What a blessing it is to have the insight that it takes to know when to regroup and the inner strength to be able to go through it. Oftentimes, when we learn that “ people don’t care “,the reality of it all can be quite painful as well as an eye opener. Just know that things happen for a reason, and I believe that our Heavenly Father orchestrates people and situations just so that we will know that Hei is always reliable, available and reachable. When others aren’t, HE is! Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

      Hi Trinity!
Yes, ma’am; things happen for a reason. I love your comment. What I receive from your message is that God wants us to lean and depend on Him and to put our confidence in Him.
Thank you so much for this comment! Have a happy holiday season, my friend!!

P.S. Sorry for the late reply!
