7 Tips for Loving Yourself Unconditionally

March 20, 2015 by Evelyn Parham

Loving yourself unconditionally means that you put no conditions or limitations on the love you have for yourself.  It is so easy for us to place conditions and limitations on the love we have for ourselves.  We do it because we think this will help us get where we want to go, not realizing it hinders our growth.

Here’s a story about unconditional love.

There are times parents get upset with their children, but the parents never stop loving their children.  I remember one day, when my daughter made me so upset. All I wanted to do was sit quietly and not be bothered by anyone.

My daughter knew that something was wrong, but for some reason she didn’t bother me.  She poked her head into the room a few times, but it wasn’t long before she walked into the room and checked on me.

My daughter walked into the room with her arms stretched wide and  gave me a big, warm hug.  The moment she hugged me, everything I felt melted away.  Unconditional love is powerful and a great healer.

Here are my tips for loving yourself unconditionally:

  1.  Stop the negative self-talk.  You wouldn’t talk negative to your child, so why would you talk negative to yourself.  Lift yourself up with positive self-talk.  Positive self-talk waters your unconditional love.  It helps it to grow bigger and deeper each day.

2.  Stop the self-judgment.  Have you ever looked in the mirror and said, “I look fat today?”  Well, maybe you didn’t say those exact words, but you have probably judged yourself in some way or another.  Judging yourself says to your spirit that you are not good enough to love.

3.  Don’t let other people control your life.  Take charge of your life and don’t give your power to anyone.  Love yourself enough to say no, when you don’t want to do something.  It won’t be the first time anyone ever said no and it won’t be the last time.

4.  Don’t neglect yourself.  Spend time with yourself, reward yourself, be present with yourself and work on improving yourself.  There is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself and you gotta love yourself enough to take care of you.

5.  Don’t withhold forgiving yourself.  It sounds a little odd to withhold forgiving yourself, but it’s something that happens.  There comes a time when you just have to forgive yourself, stop blaming yourself and let it go.

6.  Stop holding on to people, places or things that no longer serve you.  Holding on to those things that no longer serve you can zap your life energy.  Love yourself enough to know when it’s time for you to walk away.

7.  Don’t downplay yourself;  know your self worth.  I’ve heard people say this when talking about business, but I’m not talking about business here, I’m talking about you,  the person.  You are valuable and you have to believe that. When you value yourself, it is easy to love yourself unconditionally.
