There is a myth that vegans don’t get enough protein. It’s not hard at all for a vegan to get the amount of protein needed. Society believes that you must eat meat and animal products to get protein. It’s simply not true! Here’s a question for you to ponder. How do cows grow so big from eating grass?
What is protein?
Protein does not equal meat.
Protein is a nutrient. It’s a nutrient just like water, oils, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. Together, they make up the six basic nutrients that your body needs to function at its best. So get it out of your mind right now that protein equals meat. It doesn’t. (By Any Greens Necessary, page 14)
What protein does
Protein is an important nutrient that grows blood cells, bones, hair, skin, nails, hormones, muscles, enzymes and other parts of our bodies.
Find out how much protein you need.
Here’s a video of a YouTuber showing you where vegans get their protein. As you see in this video, vegans don’t have a hard time getting protein in their diet.

My favorite vegan protein source is hemp and pea. I just throw some powder made from these sources in a smoothie and I’m good to go! I’m not a vegan, but I eat a lot of protein and I want some of my protein from veggie sources.
Evelyn Parham says
Hey Susan,
I love hemp too! Very good source of protein. I usually throw some in a smoothie just like you. You’re my kind of gal! 😉
Take care,

Hi Evelyn
I love how you never get defensive about your lifestyle choices. If someone asks you a question about your vegan diet, you come up with well-researched answers.
I so don’t enjoy eating nuts! However, cos I am into healthy eating, I am now back eating them every day. My Mum always eats nuts but then she really enjoys eating them.

Hi Evelyn,
Although I’m not a vegan, but I’m tring to eat more and more vegetables as they are healthier for our bodies. I can’t imagine not eating red meat 😀 Since red meat is not good for the body, I had to cut down on eating it to once a week.
Nice video by the way. I love this blog. Thanks for sharing Evelyn 🙂

Have a great weekend!

Evelyn,
I am not a vegan, but I have friends who are. And one thing they keep coming back to the more they get into the protein discussion is nuts. Almonds, peanuts, pecans, and walnuts. And when added to a salad of leafy greens, they can do a world of good for your energy.
For the record, I don’t eat red meat – just poultry and fish (free range of course). But Rome wasn’t built in a day, huh? 😉
Evelyn Parham says
Hey Bryan,
You’re right about adding nuts to salads. They are packed with awesome nutrition. A little in a salad packs a great big punch.
That’s good that you don’t eat red meat! Not bad, Bryan! You’re on your way, if that’s what you want to do.
I agree, it does take time.
Take care,
Evelyn

Great video Evelyn! Thanks for sharing this. I get that question too and some people just don’t understand that you don’t need to eat meat to get enough protein. It’s in literally just about everything.
Evelyn Parham says
Hey Jennifer,
Thanks!
We’ve been programed to believe that if we don’t eat meat is the only source of protein, when it’s actually not the case.
You’re right. Protein is in almost everything.
Thanks for stopping by!
