Are you a juicer or a blender type of person? I am a blender type of person. This means that I blend more than I juice. I am realizing that I may need to juice more.
As a matter of fact, I plan to do more juicing and to possibly do a juice fast in the future. But for now, I am reading information about juicing, so that I can do things the right way.
While thumbing through Dr. Jensen’s Juicing Therapy book, I came across some interesting information about green juices/green drinks. Reading this information has motivated me to take a closer look into juicing regularly.
It does not make any sense for me to have a Tribest Green Star 3000 Deluxe Juicer and let it collect dust. Mr. Green Star, your gears are about to get a good work out.
Why Green Juices?
Green juices have chlorophyll, essential trace minerals, vitamins and other nutrients that are beneficial for the body. Chlorophyll is the “lifeblood” of plants and the chlorophyll molecule is almost identical to the hemoglobin molecule of blood.
Juices rich in chlorophyll has a cleansing effect on the bowels and elimination systems. This results in the cleansing of the blood, lymph, and intercellular fluid. A clean body is a well oiled body, meaning that it works well and is efficient, assimilates nutrients well, and is full of energy.
Remedial Effects of Chlorophyll on the Body
- Helps build a high blood count
- Counteracts toxins
- Helps purify the liver
- Feeds tissues magnesium
- Alleviates blood sugar problems
- Improves milk production
- Reduces or eliminates body odors
- Improves nasal drainage
- Relieves sore throat
- Soothes gastric ulcers
- Reduces catarrhal discharges
- Improves varicose veins
- Cleans and deodorizes the bowel
- Soothes the inflammation of some forms of hepatitis
- Supports blood coagulation in hemophilia
- Alleviates symptoms of asthma
- Helps sores heal faster
- Destroys bacteria in wounds
- Slows nasal drip
- Benefits inflamed lymph organs (tonsils, appendix, etc.)
- Soothes painful hemorrhoids
- Revitalizes vascular system
- Reduces pain caused by inflammation
Green juices are high in chlorophyll. Who wouldn’t want to start drinking green juices? This is enough information to give me that push I need to start drinking fresh green juices.

Hi Evelyn
Just saw this in my Twitter stream and as I have been out of action for awhile, thought I would come check it out. Having been sitting around sipping smoothies … been building a new site and revamping my blog.
Have been hearing a lot about juicing and especially juicing greens lately … now I understand why 🙂
Will be putting a juicer on my list for when it is okay with my budget constraints lol
Thanks for sharing such an informative post Evelyn. Appreciated.

I’m convinced! I’m more of a blender gal, but this green juicing thing (although a little scary), I gotta start doing. And yep, I’m sure my husband will complain yet again that I’m taking my healthy living too extreme. He’s gonna get the eye roll.
Evelyn says
Hey Josie,
Good to see you!
I’m a blender gal too. Don’t hurt too much with that eye roll. lol
Take care,
Evelyn

I think one of the important aspect of green juice is that all vitamins and minerals are available without any loss, as that occurs while cooking (major portion of water soluble vitamins are lost while cooking).
Evelyn Parham says
Hey Jupitor!
Very important and thanks for chiming in!
Bryan Thompson says
Hey Evelyn,
We need to get a juicer. We have blended smoothies for years and have always talked about getting a juicer. My kids LOVE juice and we’d love for them not to get the sugar intake (we limit their juice consumption). I don’t know if they’d drink the green juices. That brings me to another question: how do you get kids to start eating greens? We have tried almost everything in the book. Thanks!
Evelyn Parham says
Hi Bryan,
Your kids might drink the green juices. Especially when you add an apple and some carrots. That gives the juice a sweeter taste. You can always add fruit to the mix.
Bryan, I really don’t know, because I can’t get my daughter to eat greens. But I think kids will drink their greens in juice/smoothie form if there’s a little sweet taste.
Thanks for chiming in!

OH, one other thing — The AIM Companies have a product that I’ve recently started taking called BarleyLife. Its main ingredients are barley grass and chlorophyll. I add a tsp to my orange juice in the morning and shake it up in a Ball jar. Then later in the day I add another tsp to my green smoothie — It makes me happy knowing that my body is getting these amazing nutrients.
Here’s the link for you so you can check it out: http://www.theaimcompanies.com/products/barleylife/powder_and_capsules.aspx?prodcode=5626e&lid=138&AIM_AXOwnerID=711842&aimstore=y

Hi Evelyn,
Another great post! I love KALE and use it in my smoothies exclusively, although some time I switch and use cabbage, romaine, arugula, but Kale is my favorite.
Evelyn Parham says
Hey Ms. Carolyn,
Thanks!
I’ve never used cabbage, I’ll have to try that. 🙂
Gotta love that KALE.
Monqiue Koch says
Hey Evelyn!
I like kale in my smoothie but I usually make it with spinach because of the kids 🙂 I’ve been taking your advice about mixing the greens and using romaine and arugula lettuce.
Great post!
Evelyn Parham says
Hi Monqiue,
Kale is the king of the greens. 🙂 Great!
Thanks for stopping by!
Coach Calorie says
I really need to get a juicer. The best I’m doing now is adding spinach to my protein fruit smoothies. How do you think these green juices taste?
Evelyn Parham says
Hi Coach,
Adding spinach to your smoothies is a great start.
Green juices don’t taste the best by themselves. But you can make them taste better, by adding an apple or a few carrots.
Take care,
Evelyn
