You were born an original. Don’t die a copy. – John Mason
Your life is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. – Steve Jobs
Many of us live life through the eyes of other people. Always trying to project a certain reputation, even when it is not really who we authentically are. Some of you are probably saying, “I have never done that.” Maybe you have not, but there are many people who worry about what others think of them and they fear rejection.
Lisa Irby, wrote post asking “What do you do when rejection online goes too far?” The points that Lisa shared can also be applied to life off-line. This topic made for some good discussion.
Many people are afraid to try new things or go a different route, because they fear what could happen. Always looking on the bad side of things and predicting the worse. I have to admit, I was that person, but the older I get the more courage and boldness I have.
I was known as the “quiet girl” and I never spoke out on much of anything, fear of rejection and what others thought loomed over me. I just went along with the crowd and I dare not rock the boat. But something changed. I grew into me and grew up!
As the years went by, I got wiser. I started speaking out and doing things that I would have never done. Now I let people talk and make their recommendations on what they think, but who knows you better than you? I take the advice that is helpful and beneficial as it relates to me and leave the rest.
What It Takes to Be You
- Have no fear
- Accept your unique self
- Allow your gifts and talents to blossom and share this with others
- Forget about what you think others will say and think and just do it
- Dare to travel a different direction and go where no one has gone
- Make your decisions and stand firm (do not waver)
- Courage to live your passion
Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one’s definition of your life; define yourself. – Harvey Fierstein
Always remember that you cannot please all the people all the time, so don’t stress trying. It’s the healthy way!

Hey Sis, it’s me. I’ve been thinking of making changes to my blog for a while now and decided this past weekend to move the blog and change the name.
You always seem to post something that I need to see and hear at just the right time. Keep up the great work!

Hi Evelyn, love this post 🙂
My best friend told me this quote, I forgot who that quote is from but it goes like this ” Be your self, because everyone else is already taken “. I love this quote so much. I always try to dig down into my thoughts and ideas to make sure they really came from me. In the beginning of my blogging journey I was trying to always tip toe around certain things because I wasn’t sure how people would accept it, and when I actually spoke my mind one time I got attacked. I didn’t really care and I fought back for what I believed in, after that conflict I realized I’d rather get attacked for what I believe in, then get a pat on the back for what I don’t. Now I just speak my mind all the time, if someone doesn’t like it – I ignore it :).
Thank you again for this wonderful post,
Tatianna

Hi Tatianna!
That’s the way to be. I think people respect you even more when you are not trying to please the people, but sharing and speaking from your heart and what you believe.
Time brings about a change, for some of us this takes a while and others it takes no time at all.
Thanks for sharing…very inspiring.
Take care,
Evelyn

Awesome tips – sometimes especially if we are hanging around other people a lot (at work especially) we tend to mimmick these people. This has been a mini wake up call for me 🙂 cheeeers

Wonderful post, Evelyn. Being our authentic self is very easy to do unless we are unhappy on the inside. We should never allow someone else’s thoughts about us to become our own. LIfe is beautiful! 🙂
