Get Back in the Game and Keep Playing (don’t quit)

April 23, 2012 by Evelyn Parham

boy-shooting-ballThis is a short message to anyone who is having issues with slipping back in to bad eating habits, myself included.

Sometimes things that are going on around us and things that we have no control over can have a definite effect on what we choose to eat.

There are so many contributing factors to why we can’t seem to let certain foods go or why we slip back into our old ways when we know better.

I had some relatives visit me this weekend and when we went for dinner, I pretty much ate like they ate. My uncle loves to eat and I try to hang with him, but I just can’t.

I knew better, but, I slipped anyway. It doesn’t help when you have your relatives saying you need to eat, stop depriving yourself, and here’s the big one, you need to add a little weight.

The funny thing is that I think I do need to add some weight, but not too much. I know that all I have to do is increase my food intake.

I am not beating myself up for it. I will not stop playing in the game, instead, I will get back in the game and keep playing.

I may have to take timeout to regroup to get back on track, but I am in it to win it, and I will not quit.

Take Time-Out to Regroup

If you are off your game, don’t stop playing and don’t let a few set-backs break you. Instead devise your game plan and get back in the game. You may have to play the game a little differently, but no matter what, you must keep playing.

You may ask, “How do I regroup?” Here are some ways you can regroup and get back in the game:

  • Pray for guidance and direction.
  • Gradually get back in the game and don’t do things so fast. Take your time.
  • Revisit those books and documentaries that inspired and helped you make changes.
  • Realize that you are you and that you can’t do everything that everybody else does. You must play your game the way that is best for you.
  • Regroup and start again when you are ready.

Words of Inspiration

Failure is only the opportunity to begin again, this time more wisely. – Anonymous

What counts is not necessarily the size of the dog in the fight – it’s the size of the fight in the dog. – Dwight D. Eisenhower

Defeat is not defeat unless accepted as a reality-in your own mind. – Bruce Lee

When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on. – Franklin D. Roosevelt

Never, never, never give up. – Winston Churchill

Now, let’s play ball!!

Girl, you have hit the nail on the head for me with this one…with eating and my bowling game. I had been feeling down and definitely eating stuff that I should not have…potato chips mainly.

I’ve decided to focus on my bulking up my strengths. When I do that, I find that I have more control of the weakness so that it does not get out of hand.

I’m so glad you chimed in on this.

You and me both! You can do it. Focusing on your strengths will definitely help. πŸ˜‰

Hi Evelyn, your wise words could be applied to a lot of things – not just eating! We have just had a big family celebration this weekend and were given a big box of iced birthday cake! Oh dear! I was only going to have one piece but we were travelling and a long way from a cafe so out came the cake! But as you say, get over it and get back on the wagon.

      Hey Jan!

As long as you don’t eat cake all the time, I think you’re doing good.

Don’t be hard on yourself and don’t let the cake hinder your progress.

I am back on the wagon today. Sometimes when you eat too much sugary stuff it’s good to remind you why you don’t want to be on it anymore but it is good to do once in a while.

I enjoyed your post as I’ve “fallen off the wagon” a little, so to speak. I had bariatric surgery a while back and there are some things that you’re supposed to do … limit carbs, increase protein, don’t drink and eat at the same time, etc. My weight loss has stabilized so I find myself becoming complacent and I really need to get back to basics. Love your words of inspiration!

    Evelyn,

This post is so timely for me as I occasionally feel on standstill, not knowing that path I am in right or not. Just what I needed to read and I am going to keep going and hopefully will see light at the end of tunnel. Thanks.

Evelyn, I’m sooo glad you’re not beating yourself up about eating outside of your normal plan. We’re human πŸ™‚ Your regrouping tips and quotes will have you back in the groove in no time. πŸ™‚
Have you decided what foods you will eat to gain a few lbs?

      Hey Monique!

      Yes, we’re human.

I really haven’t thought about it. But I’ll probably eat more avocados, which I don’t eat that much anyway. Plus I’ll pump up my protein, because I do want to gain muscle. I’m trying to get some nice abs. πŸ™‚

If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear them.

      Thanks for your support!
