Am I Really Providing Value or Am I Wasting Time?

There are times when readers of this blog and followers on social media tell me I share needed and helpful content.

I smile and thank them for their kind words. But I have asked myself many times, “Am I really providing value or am I just wasting my time?”

Today’s post is not about me, but more about you. You’re probably wondering, “How can this post be about me when she’s clearly talking about herself?”

Trust that I am going somewhere with this and that it does relate to you too because you can apply everything I say in this post to your own life.

Are You Creating Valuable Content?

Every now and then you have to take a good look at the content and information that you share online and offline.

Is it helping anyone and is anyone finding value in what you say and share with the world?

If you have one person who tells you that they value the content you create and share and find it helpful, then your creating is not in vain.

One person had the courage to tell you they value the content you create and share.   Just because one person tells you they value the information you share doesn’t mean that he/she is the only one.

Do you know that there are people who admire and follow you for years without ever letting you know how much they value what you do?

Until one day, you receive a phone call or an email from the admirer, the follower, or the lurker telling you how much you’ve helped them.

Do you know this person (the admirer, the follower, or the lurker),  is more likely to buy from you and be one of your best customers? Never undervalue anyone, they just might surprise you.

Many times you’ve wanted to give up and stop creating valuable content, but because of the love you have for what you do, you kept pushing.

Are You Wasting Your Time?

If you believe in the depths of your soul, that you have something to share with the world, then you are not wasting your time.

It may seem like what you’re doing is a waste of time but in the grand scheme of things, time is preparing you for greater things that lie ahead.

There are some activities that we may think we need to do because other people are doing those activities, but you don’t have to do and be like others.  It is always best to do things differently and be unique.

After all, authenticity should be your aim, not being like more of the same, just to stay in the game.

Do an inventory of what you should spend your time doing and cut out those activities that aren’t beneficial for you.

Spending your time on things that matter and on those things that get you results ensures that you will never waste your precious time.

do-what-you-loveWhat is Evelyn Up To?

I’m glad you asked! If you think Evelyn is giving up, you are sadly mistaken.

I am not giving up, even though the numbers say I probably should give up and move on to something else. Here’s what I am doing:

  • going after my dream and investing in myself. (You’ll read about me one day.)
  • creating content (written, visuals, videos, and programs.)
  • not giving up even though blog comments are low
  • not giving up even though blog traffic is slow
  • sharing other people’s content, even though my content is not (naturally/organically) shared by others as much

  • commenting on other blogs, even though time is an issue, I’ll make time for it
  • continue sending emails to those on my email list
  • focusing on the social media sites that are worth it.

and finally…

If you have a dream inside of you, wake up, get busy making things happen.

All it takes is

  • action,
  • dedication,
  • determination,
  • and diligence to make your dream become a reality.

Until next time….

Thank you for writing and sharing this post. Too often, when things don’t go according to the plan, we give up – instead of holding out until the end. It is, during these discouraging times, that we must encourage ourselves (just as you have done in this post). Just because it may not seem as if our actions are positively affecting others, that does not mean that is the case. Things are not always the way they appear. Remember, my friend, as believers, we walk by faith and not by sight! Continue to do what you have been called to do, and your light will continue to shine.

I often wonder the same. And I give a different answer day by day.

Evelyn, I love this post! As a fellow blogger with an online and offline business I can relate to what you shared. Sometimes I wonder if all the work online is worth it but when someone tells me that my blog posts or social media shares have helped them I know I have to keep going. You provide so much valuable content online so I’m so happy you made the choice to keep going with your social media. Keep being an inspiration! 🙂
