Introduction of Head Strong
Head Strong consists of three parts:
Part 1: It’s All in Your Head
Part 2: You are in Control of Your Head
Part 3: The Two-Week Head Strong Program
Expect to learn about the mighty mitochondria, neurogenesis, inflammation, foods to eat to fuel your brain, toxins to avoid to improve your body’s detox systems, and other things you can do to increase your brain energy.
If you are fed up with having brain fog, forgetfulness, losing your train of thought, fatigue, moods swings, being overweight, and feeling like this is a normal way of life for you, then you should read Head Strong.
The author, Dave Asprey, presents many ways to change your brain energy by implementing biohacking strategies. These biohacking strategies are simple actions you can do to help you activate your brain power.
Take Home Points
Dave’s writing style held my attention, and because of that, it was a pleasure reading Head Strong.
I always like to share quotes from any book and below are some of the quotes from Head Strong:
“Without adequate levels of energy being released from my fat cells, my mitochondria could not make enough energy, and my Labrador started begging me to eat more of everything.” – p.15
(Dave’s explaining what he experienced when he was fat).
“Chronic stress leads to many problems including poor fat metabolism and an increased demand for sugar. Lowering your stress levels will help to quiet your inner Labrador and improve your ability to metabolize fat.” – p. 39
“Brain degeneration is not inevitable. Brand-new, healthy neurons can be created at any age. It just takes more conscious planning to keep doing it as your age.” – p. 49
“An inflamed brain can make you unreasonably angry, can be a source of severe food cravings that distract you from whatever you’re trying to accomplish, and can rob you of your memory like it did to mine during that exam.” – p.61
“The whole point of eating food is to provide our bodies with the energy they need to fuel all of our bodily systems, especially the organ that consumes the most energy–the brain.” p. 106
“The Head Strong program will not just teach you how to eat to fuel the mitochondria in your brain, detox from environmental toxins that limit energy, and maximize your light exposure, breathing, workouts, and sleep, but it will also help you stack these up so that you can gain the most benefit in the shortest amount of time.” – p. 200
Conclusion
Head Strong is a book that gives you simple tips and biohacking tricks that you can do to improve your brain energy. I’ve already started bulletproofing my coffee, and I love it!
I found myself, as a person who has a background in cellular biology, wishing that Dave, had included a drawing of how the mitochondria organelle looks, but hey that’s the biologist in me. However, he gave a pretty good description of the mitochondria. I’ll take that!
A drawing of the nerve cell would have been nice too.
Overall, I learned a lot of new and exciting information. If you want to get your brain energy juices flowing, I highly recommend you grab a copy of Head Strong, and after reading this book give Dave’s two-week Head Strong program a try and be sure to let me now how you feel.
About Head Strong
• Hardcover: 352 pages
• Publisher: Harper Wave (April 4, 2017)
From the creator of Bulletproof Coffee and author of the bestselling The Bulletproof Diet comes a revolutionary plan to upgrade your brainpower—in two weeks or less.
For the last decade, Silicon Valley entrepreneur Dave Asprey has worked with world-renowned doctors and scientists to uncover the latest, most innovative methods for making humans perform better—a process known as “biohacking.” In his first book, The Bulletproof Diet, he shared his biohacking tips for taking control of your own biology. Now, in Head Strong, Asprey shows readers how to biohack their way to a sharper, smarter, faster, more resilient brain.
Imagine feeling like your mind is operating at its clearest and sharpest, and being able—possibly for the first time in your life—to do more in less time? What it suddenly became easier to do the very hardest things you do? Or if you could feel 100% confident about your intellect, and never again fear being the person in the room who just isn’t smart enough, or can’t remember something important? How would you treat people if the mood swings, short temper, and food cravings that disrupt your day could simply disappear?
In Head Strong, Asprey shows us that all of this is possible—and more. Using his simple lifestyle modifications (or “hacks”) to take advantage of how the structure of your brain works, readers will learn how to take their mental performance to the next level. Combining the latest findings in neuroscience and neurobiology with a hacker-inspired “get it done now” perspective, Asprey offers a program structured around key areas of brain performance that will help you:
- Power the brain with exactly what it needs to perform at its best all day long
- Eliminate the sources of “kryptonite,” both nutritional and environmental, that make the brain slower.
- Supercharge the cellular powerhouses of our brains, the mitochondria, to eliminate cravings and turn up mental focus.
- Reverse inflammation to perform better right now, then stay sharp and energized well into your golden years.
- Promote neuron growth to enhance processing speed and reinforce new learning—hotwiring your brain for success.
Asprey’s easy to follow, two-week program offers a detailed plan to supercharge brain performance, including: which foods to eat and which ones to avoid, how to incorporate the right kinds of physical activity into your day, a detox protocol for your home and body; meditation and breathing for performance, recommended brain-boosting supplements; and how to adjust the lighting in your home and work space to give your brain the quality light it thrives on.
A better brain—and a happier, easier, more productive life—is within reach. You just need to get Head Strong.

Sounds like an interesting book. It’s amazing how food seems to affect everything. It’s good to know that brain degeneration does not have to be accepted as the norm. Thanks for sharing!
