Staying Consistent with Lifestyle Changes (4 ways to do it)

October 12, 2017 by Evelyn Parham

Do you have a hard time staying consistent with lifestyle changes? It is probably hard because you are not ready for change or you don’t have the right mindset.  Either, way, you have to decide that you will stay consistent and do whatever it takes to make lifestyle changes successfully.

Either, way, you have to decide that you will stay consistent and do whatever it takes to make lifestyle changes successfully.

Consistency Pays Off

One day, during a homeschooling session, my husband got the bright idea to have our daughter, read a passage from the book of Psalms.

At the time, I was doing computer stuff, but I heard Hannah, struggling to read the 23rd Psalms.  I thought to myself, “Why is he doing this; she won’t be able to read that?” But I held my peace.

I took my husband’s lead and started having Hannah read from the book of Psalms every day. And over time, her reading improved tremendously.

Recently, while visiting grandmother’s home, Hannah read Psalms 23 (we wanted to show grandma), but instead of Hannah reading the passage, she recited the entire chapter.

I was shocked, almost moved to tears, because I did not know that Hannah had memorized Psalms the 23rd chapter.

That was the moment when I realized that consistency with anything does pay off.

4 Ways to Stay Consistent with Lifestyle Changes

There are many ways you can stay consistent with lifestyle changes, but I’ll give you four.

1.  Have the Right Mindset.  Lay your foundation by having the right mindset. You must believe that you can make the changes, however, if you do not think that you can reach your goals, then you will not achieve your goals.

2.  Gradually Make Changes. Make small changes that you can handle. Don’t expect to make significant changes right away. Stay in the kiddie pool if you have to until you are ready to launch into deeper water.

3.  Practice Making Changes.   Wash, rinse, and repeat. Practice makes perfect.  Show up every day and just do it. It may seem hard in the beginning, but I promise that if you stay consistent with change, that it will become a part of you.

4.  Be a Go-Getter. Don’t expect change to fall in your lap; you have to get it and make the changes become a reality. If you want to change bad enough, you’ll figure out a way to get it.

It always seems impossible until it’s done. – Nelson Mandella

awwww how touching Hannah. That’s too precious. Another excellent point you made was that you held your peace although you were unsure why something was happening. Glad you shared that. The right mindset is so vital for many many aspects of our lives.
