I have lived in my area for ten years and I recently learned that there is a farm in my area. The farm is local, so local that it is almost in my back yard. I discovered it when I saw a sign that said “Pick Your Own Strawberries.” My little twin and I love strawberries and we will pick some very soon.
Lone Oak Farms Location
The name of the farm is Lone Oak Farms. If you are from Georgia and are in the area, check it out. The Lone Oak Farm is located on 7633 Forrest Road, Grantville, Georgia 30220. Right now they have strawberries and onions that are ready for picking.
The Lone Oak Farm is open 7 days a week, 8 AM -6 PM; late March through October. Soon they will have tomatoes, squash, zucchini, corn, beans, and much more. Blueberries will be ready in July. You can pick your own or buy already picked produce.
Growing Practices
Lone Oak Farm uses natural growing practices. Some produce is sustainably grown and some produce is grown using integrated pest management.
Support Your Local Farmers
I cannot wait to buy my produce from this farm, because I have yet to start my garden. It is a great way to support a local business in my community.
I am not too concerned about the produce being organic or non-organic. The produce does not travel thousands of miles to get to my kitchen. I would take produce that travels only 10 miles any day.
Through my experience as a gardener and local buyer of produce, these fruits and vegetables always have the best taste. There’s nothing better than fresh produce from a local farm.
Buying local helps reduce the carbon footprint and you also help support local businesses in your area. If you have local farmers in your area, please support them!
Buy local!

I’m in the process right now of freezing the delicious sweet, picked the day before strawberries that I got from my local farmers market yesterday.
It’s awesome to build a relationship with the local farmers. I was a bit sad that I did not see the couples that I had been getting my produce from last year. I’m hoping that all is well with both couples. However, the ladies I got the strawberries from are new to this market so I hope they’ll stay.

Hey Ms. Fullroller!!
Wow, that sounds like fun. I mean really, I so enjoy doing things like that. It brings back memories of me helping my grandmother put up food, when I was a teen.
Yes, I agree!
Take care!

I truly think that going to local farmers for produce will get more and more popular given the benefits you list. As well, even in cities such as ours (Santa Barbara) the few (urban) farms that exist often give tours.

Hey Kymberly!
I agree with you on it getting more popular.
Those tours sound cool. One can learn a lot.
Thanks for sharing. I will take photos too when I go…we’ll see how they turn out. I just might publish in a blog post. 🙂
Have a great weekend!

Great post! We should support our local farmers because we will definitely know where the food originated which is key. Thank you for all the great information you always provide, Evelyn!

I also agree with you Carolyn, local is also the best because we know where the fruits and veggies came from and how they produced it.
This local farm is also great. If we are the ones that are going pick the fruits, then it is really fresh, that is for sure.
