5 Reasons Why You Should Not Let Fear Control Your Life

September 16, 2014 by Evelyn Parham

“The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” – Franklin D. Roosevelt

A few months ago, I asked for your support in helping me win a scholarship. I am happy to let you know that I came in third place and was awarded a $2000 scholarship. I begin training to become a certified Eating Psychology Coach on October 1. Thanks to everyone for your support!

I have a secret to share with you that I have only shared with a few people. I was afraid of entering the contest; I almost waited too late to submit my entry. Fear almost caused me to miss out on an amazing opportunity.

#1 Fear hinders your personal growth.

Improving ourselves and becoming the best that we can be is great. But what happens when we allow fear to creep in? Fear grabs hold of us and we forget about those things we strive to improve. We end up not doing anything or working on our goals of improving ourselves. Say, “Fear you have to go; you have no control here.”

#2 Fear causes you not to try new things.

Have you ever wanted to start an exercise routine, but you never got around to it? Yeah, I know the feeling. Letting go of fear opens you up to a whole new world you didn’t know exist. Well, you know it exists, you are just too scared to open the new door to see what lies behind that door.

What is the worst that can happen when you try something new? Really nothing. If you fail or if you succeed, you learn lessons that you carry with for a lifetime. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose. Say, “Fear you have to go; you have no control here.”

#3 Fear causes you to miss out on great opportunities.

I stated above that I was afraid to enter the contest, but I eventually found the courage to enter the contest and to my surprise I was awarded a scholarship. Had I not let fear have any control, I know I could have won first place, but I am thankful that I placed in the contest.

Great opportunities don’t come aroung everyday and it is up to you to make the most of every great opportunity that comes your way. That’s why you have to look fear in the eyes and say, “Fear you have to go; you have no control here.”

#4 Fear causes you to believe less in your abilities.

Someone tells you that you are talented and will do great things, but if you don’t believe it. It doesn’t matter how much the other person believes that you are destined for greatness, if you don’t believe it and you fear sharing your talents with the world, then you will not perform at your fullest potential. Fear of failure is why many talented people aren’t following their passion. Say, “Fear you have to go; you have no control here.”

#5 Fear causes you to avoid change.

No one likes change, but the good thing is that most adjust to change and accept it for what it is. There are some who will not change even when they know the benefits of embracing change are for their good. Don’t let your fear keep you accepting change. Say, “Fear you have to go; you have no control here.”

*****

Don’t let fear control your future. You are the one who calls the shots, always remember, Fear has to go; it has not control here.
