Introduction to Eat Dirt

Eat Dirt has four major parts:

  • Part One: Why We’re Suffering
  • Part Two: The Five Factors of Gut Health
  • Part Three: Heal Your Gut Type
  • Part Four: Recipes

Eat Dirt  has 17 chapters and daily routines for healing the body and the five gut types listed (candida, stressed, immune, gastric, and toxic gut).

Expect to learn about how the gut works, what exactly leaky gut is and how it impacts your overall health and wellness.

Eat Dirt also includes a list of foods to eat, recommended supplements, and information about essential oils.

In addition to a food list, the author, Dr. Axe tells you the foods to substitute in place of foods not recommended and he also includes recipes for the home and the body.

I have always wanted to learn more about leaky gut and after reading Eat Dirt, I have a better understanding about leaky gut and how to fix the issue.

If you have gut health issues, please read Eat Dirt, because it will help you learn how important gut health is and how you can cure leaky gut.

Take Home Points

When I read a book, I always have a pen/pencil in my hand, because I want to remember those key points that jump out at me.

Eat Dirt has many take home points (the book is a take home point), but of course, I can’t share them all with you, but here are few that jumped out at me.

  1. “A healthy immune system remains quietly vigilant, like a burly bouncer, admitting the good and swiftly dispatching the bad.” Page 7
  2. “Most of the microbiome lives inside your intestines, which is ground zero for where leaky gut takes place.” Page 17
  3. “In fact, more than 75 percent of all physician visits are for stress-related ailments – many of them related to the gut.”Page 131
  4. “When we reduce stress, the composition of our microbiome becomes more balanced, which helps repair the gut lining, which reduces inflammation, which reduces stress and anxiety.” Page 137

Conclusion

Eat Dirt is a that book tells you exactly how to cure a leaky gut. Dr. Axe stresses the importance of using organic products (foods, cleaning products, and personal care products).

Dr. Axe shares how he helped his mother with her battle with cancer. She won the battle and is doing great. He also shares the remarkable testimonies of other patients he has helped.

These testimonies are very fascinating and encouraging.

It is truly amazing how paying attention to the gut and giving it what it needs can correct/cure many health problems.

I truly believe that life and death lie in the health of the gut. Dr. Axe sheds light on how you can cure leaky gut and improve your overall gut health.

If you suffer from leaky gut/gut health issues, please read Eat Dirt.  Eat Dirt will help you understand why you have leaky gut and gives you the tools you need to cure your leaky gut.

I highly recommend that you get your hands on this book!

In recent decades, modern “improvements” to our lifestyle and food supply have come with a cost: our health. From pesticides in our soil to the refrigeration and pasteurization of our food to an overreliance on antibiotics and a preoccupation with sanitizing everything in sight, our desire to be clean is actually putting us at risk for a host of chronic illnesses.

That’s because as we’ve shifted our focus to living a germ-free life, our bodies—specifically, our digestive systems—have taken a hit. Starved of actual nutrition, fed toxic levels of processed foods, and overtaxed by chemicals, stress, and excessive antimicrobial use, we’ve developed microscopic tears in our intestinal walls, leading to the widespread inflammation and weakened immunity that characterize a condition known as “leaky gut syndrome.”

In Eat Dirt, functional medicine practitioner Dr. Josh Axe explains the hidden causes and widespread effects of leaky gut syndrome, a condition that is thought to be ground zero for many of the country’s most confounding health crises—including allergies, asthma, food sensitivities, diabetes, digestive diseases, arthritis, thyroid conditions, and even frustratingly difficult-to-treat conditions such as chronic fatigue and autism.

Dr. Axe explains that 70 percent of our immune system is located in the gut—when it’s under attack, our health suffers. In leaky gut syndrome, a number of factors—including insufficient exposure to“dirt”—leads to the breakdown of the intestinal wall, allowing food, bacteria, and toxins to seep into the bloodstream. In Eat Dirt, Dr. Axe reveals that the solution, while counterintuitive, is almost effortless: we just need to welcome a little more “dirt” back into our lives.

From ditching hand sanitizers, using essential oils for personal products, reducing antibiotic use, and consuming local honey to spending more time outside, eating seasonally, managing stress, and incorporating probiotic-rich foods into our diets, Dr. Axe provides specific guidance to help everyone get a little “dirty.”

Does the book cover how to determine which type of leaky gut a person might have and whether similar symptoms might indicate something other than leaky gut? The sections you cite indicate various types of leaky gut. Book looks interesting.

      Hi Kymberly,

There is a Gut Type Quiz but it is simply a guide and not an absolute as stated in the book. The book describes each gut type and includes an action plan for each.

Yeah, it is pretty interesting, Kymberly!
