Quieting the Noise to Hear the Wisdom of Your Body

October 7, 2014 by Evelyn Parham

Are you making healthy lifestyle changes? Are you trying a new diet, fitness routine, or trying getting a grasp on how to make changes and habits stick?

During the process of making changes and habits stick you get overwhelmed by all the information and misinformation available that it puts you in a state of confusion.

Resulting in you giving up and saying, “Forget this new diet or new fitness routine.  I’m just doing my thing and hoping for the best.”

I experienced this, but it took quieting the noise and listening to the wisdom of my body for me to realize that nothing is concrete; evolving and growing is inevitable and perfection is not the most important thing.

The most important thing is that we learn why we make changes and understand how those changes and new habits help us become a healthier person.

Lessons from Nature

Squirrels

A few months ago, the squirrels were gathering acorns and pecans from the trees in my yard and they are making their last rounds before the weather gets colder.

I enjoy watching the squirrels gather their food. While watching them, I wonder, how do they remember where they bury their food and how do they know how much they will need?

The squirrels’ instincts tell them when it is harvest time and how much they need to harvest. They don’t need anyone telling them when to go out and harvest their food and where to bury it. They just know.

Leaves

The leaves are changing colors and shedding in some parts of the world. The shedding of leaves is like the noise we hear, but the difference in us and the leaves, is the leaves know when it is time to go, while we hold things and try to make those things work, not realizing that holding everything only weighs us down.

Being like the leaves and letting things fall off us when they need to fall off is a good thing.  Do not hold to the information that you know is not good for you.  Let it go.

How to Quiet the Noise

Stop and access how much information you digest. Too much information leads to information overload and causes confusion.

Here are ways to quiet the noise so you hear the wisdom of your own body:

  • use information that applies to you
  • look deep within and understand what it is that you and your body needs
  • learn what works best for you and what does not work for you and stay true to you and your body
  • be open-minded, but do not be so open-minded that you lose yourself in the process
  • stop forcing yourself to stick with information that confuses you and your body
  • stop accepting information that upsets your mind, body and spirit.

****

Make it your goal to quiet the noise and look deep within yourself to learn what the wisdom of your body is telling you.  You will be surprised by what you learn.

Let the wisdom of your body be your guide.

I think part of the issue is being able to access information without becoming emotionally attached to the information. Many times we seek information to apply a quick fix, but because there are so many people with some many varying vested interests, it is easy to become frustrated when the correct path is not immediately illuminated. The problem is actually ours, in that we need to practice patience and diligence in seeking out the truth. The path is narrow, but the path is there. When something doesn’t work, we may need to modify how we are approaching that something, or we need to move away from that something. We can learn from disinformation as well as information, with patience. As we can learn from a fool as well as a wise man, with patience.

It is very difficult, at times, to truly let things go when we know that those things or situations or even relationships are no longer working for us. I think it is partly because we have often done things or accepted things a certain way for so long.

Thanks for sharing this post. I needed to read this – at this very moment. God always knows what we need, and He used you to be His messenger .

    Peace and Blessings!

      Hi Trinity!

Yes, I agree! I had to let a few relationships end few months ago and it was hard, but it was something that had to be done. When we get to a point in our lives when we will no longer do business as usual, that’s when we stop accepting or doing things we used to accept or do. This is when the magic happens and we truly stay live our purpose.

I am so glad you stopped by and you always bless me.

      Blessings to you!

    Hi Evelyn,

You’re certainly right, Now a days getting information became too easy and we’re getting overburdened with excessive information. So its important to filter out what’s good and important for us and only use them. This certainly going to keep our mind calm and positive

I agree is it easy to become overburdened by excessive information if we are not patient with ourselves. What helps me is the understanding this information overload is done un purpose to keep us in a state of confusion to our true selves, which are part of God. This make s me even more diligent in seeking patience in God so I can cut through the devil’s lies and uncover the truth.
