What spending time alone can teach you about yourself
There are so many distractions these days and these distractions hinder you from spending time alone. Spending time alone teaches you about yourself.
Time alone is something you must do, make it a priority in your life, but most importantly, you must understand that spending time alone is an act of self-care.
What if you never spent one minute alone? Your mind would be filled with all kinds of stuff and you would never feel relaxed enough to reflect on your life. Your stress levels would be through the roof.
Being alone with yourself helps you focus on yourself. It is not selfish for you to spend time alone. It is actually a healthy self-care practice to include in how you take care of yourself.
Spending time in prayer and/or meditation and unwinding is beneficial for every part of who you are; mind, body, spirit, and soul.
Being alone without distractions is healthy for you. It is okay to unplug from the phone, television, the internet, and your smartphone. You will not miss anything.
The time you spend alone with yourself is the most precious time. Start today making it a top priority in your life.
Here is what spending time alone teaches you about yourself. It teaches you to:
- clear your mind of all the distractions
- take the time to relax and reflect
- focus on the positive and less on the negative
- have faith in the impossible
- love yourself unconditionally
- embrace what is, no matter what your situation looks like
- live in the presence of now
- believe in a power source that is greater than you
- know that you have a purpose
- be genuinely caring and concerned for others.
Spending time alone teaches you many things about yourself that you probably never even thought about.
Take time to relax and reflect every day, because it is your lifeline and power source to having a healthy mind, body, spirit, and soul.
A distracted mind affects your body, spirit, and soul. Keep a careful watch over your mind.
Relax, reflect, and focus on spending time alone every chance you get. It is not selfish, it is actually one of the most loving acts you can do for yourself.

I try and spend 15 to 30 minutes every morning meditating. Being alone with your thoughts and setting your intentions for the day is so good for the soul.

Hi Lori-Ann,
That’s an excellent way to start the day. It makes facing the day doable.
Thanks for sharing how you spend time alone and how it benefits you!

I so much agree with you. Especially being a mother, my mind is totally occupied with thoughts 24/7. My husband is kind enough to let me take 3-4 days break once in while. He takes my kids to his hometown and I stay alone to recollect my forgotten-self. Beautiful thoughts in your article. Loved it.

Hi Sapana,
That’s kind of your husband to let you have some time alone. I know you really enjoy that time alone.
Thank you!

I spend way too much time by myself, to the point where sometimes I’m bothered when my wife is home. However, I’ve also spent most of my life on my own, so I know myself very well and know how to work through things and what can help get my mind into a better place when I need to.
